Designing using full use of space

Designing using full use of space

Storage space is consistently mentioned as one of the priorities people ask for when extending or renovating their property. However, in London this space is often hard to come by without a large cost. Londoners are constantly looking for clever storage solutions within their properties as most external storage units cost significant amounts. There are various design options available to ensure that space is maximised, our most popular being those listed below:

Clever Joinery

Floor to ceiling joinery can be designed to accommodate and display collections such as books. There is the option of this spanning the full floor to ceiling height of the room to maximise the storage space available. Tall joinery was incorporated into the basement design of one of our projects at Chiddingstone Street, shown below.

Loft conversions

With growing families, many house owners apply for loft conversions to maximise bedrooms, which provides the option of utilising the eaves space for storage. Whilst this space is often useful for bulkier, less used items such as suitcases and golf clubs, it can also be cleverly designed to house smaller items such as clothes and shoes with bespoke joinery.

Islands

Optimisation of the floor space is key particularly for kitchens and dressing rooms. Creating islands in the centre of these rooms, as well as the use of clever cabinetry, maximises the space available whilst also giving a space to house items that may want to be out of sight.

Bike Storage

With lack of space in London it is becoming more and more popular that clients need to 'magic up' space for storage for bulkier items such as bikes and garden equipment. One design solution to this is front garden or basement light well storage as well as vertical bike storage.

Staircases

Staircases have a functional purpose to many homes which often have wasted space underneath. By utilising this space, they can either be made into a feature, such as the below spiral staircase wine cellar, or used for functional purposes, such as becoming space for that extra loo!
