Lighting control is a fundamental element that needs to be considered when designing your home. In its most basic sense, it is the ability to adjust the level and quality of light in a given space for particular tasks or circumstances. Controlling of the light levels correctly not only enhances the feeling in a room, but it also helps to save energy by using light when and where it is needed the most.
In the old days, lights were either on or off, but your home isn't just a series of boxes - it's somewhere you relax and entertain and as such quality lighting is an important aspect of our daily life, and is often taken for granted. With the technology available to us today, we can control from a single lightbulb up to almost every aspect of the lighting in your house, setting the right mood whether you're just waking up, preparing the family dinner or throwing a party. We can even help to keep control of the lights that the kids always leave on!
It's not just about ambience either. We've got access to some of the smartest lighting systems on the market such Rako Controls (www.rakocontrols.com) or Lutron (www.lutron.com), meaning that not only can you control the lights from switch panels but also from the palm of your hand via smart devices. Furthermore, both of these lighting systems can also be managed by a home automation system such as Control4 which can allow you to go even further. You can customise subtle light changes in each room depending on the time of day and the light levels outside - they can even link in with our music and TV systems, so for example when you hit play on your movie the lights will dim automatically giving you that cinema feel in the comfort of your own home!
When we look at lighting levels we not only look at the lights, but also blinds or curtains, and the same principals apply to controlling them as the lights. This can be by using the simple on wall control panels, via smart phone or if required they can automatically open and close depending on the brightness levels in the room. All of the systems mentioned above also work as a great security feature, meaning that when you are away from your home you can give the impression that it is occupied via automated control of the blinds, curtains and lighting.
In order to turn these concepts into reality, our AV department works hand in hand with our interior designers and lighting designers to ensure that your property really does achieve that X factor whilst staying true to the style and feel of your home.
For more information on lighting control please speak to our AV department or our Interior Design team, who will be delighted to explain any of the systems in further detail.
