Project Brief: To extend and fully refurbish a family house in Wimbledon.
A tired and poorly arranged Wimbledon house was reconfigured with the addition of a large loft conversion and lateral extension. The internal layouts were also significantly changed to allow the property to flow and maximise the use of the space. Clever storage cupboards throughout the house along with a desk in the study were all fabricated onsite and also helped with maximising the space available. The refurbishment also included complete renewal all plumbing and electrical services.
The lateral extension was built with a stunning copper roof that is twisted at an angle to allow winter sun to stream through a large centrally positioned roof light. All of the kitchen cabinets and cupboards were built bespoke by BTL using book matched American Redgum with an island unit made from wrapped Corian, which doubles up as the worktop. The storage space within the kitchen was also bespoke and was designed to allow access for children at low level and at the same time access for adults at high level; one particularly striking feature is a hidden brass lined cocktail cabinet.
Large glass sliding doors and panels maximise views down the 54m long garden.
The project was shortlisted for the 'Don't move Improve awards 2013.
